Copper Cabling - Copper cabling is the accepted medium for horizontal, or station, cabling due to it's cost efficiency, flexibility and durability. Both telephone and computer networks typically operate on copper cables of the various categories, depending on the transmission requirements of the system. With current technology, the importance of well installed cables for the sake of transmission integrity grows higher. To get the most out of your passive cabling system, it must be installed by technicians trained in the proper installation practices. KBL Datacom has over 30 years of combined experience in this field.
UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) - The most common type of copper cabling for data and voice networks. See categories below.
Coaxial cable - Used for CATV & CCTV
Category 3 - The most cost efficient cabling, used mostly for telephone systems or low speed data networks.
Category 5e - Cat5e structured cabling is still the most popular system for new installations. It's capable of handling Gigabit Ethernet to distances of 100 meters (328 ft) with the flexibility offered by patching.
Category 6 - Currently the highest standard for data cabling giving Gigabit Ethernet systems more headroom with its greater transmission properties over Cat5e.
Category 6a - The newest standard (ratified summer 2006) which supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet data networks.
Testing and certification - KBL tests and certifies each cable they install to its proper category rating.
